The Dead Sea Scrolls are ancient Jewish manuscripts, mainly Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts, discovered in caves near the Dead Sea between 1947 and 1956, and date from the 3rd century BCE to the 1st century CE. They include the oldest surviving biblical manuscripts, sect-specific writings (probably from the Essenes), and other Jewish literature, offering valuable insight into Second Temple Judaism and the origins of Christianity and Rabbinic Judaism.
