Hanukkah Lamp modeled after a Hanukkah lamp from Israel, Pall-bell compay, 1040s-1950s. Brass, cast. the Zeyde Schulmann collection in the Israel Museum. to Fez
The backplate of this hanukkah lamp consists of a pair of stylized gazelles entwined with vine branches from which hangs a bunch of grapes. These motifs, like the bench-shaped row of oil fonts, were inspired by Polish Hanukkah lamps.
Founded in the mandatory Palestine in 1939, the Pall-Bell company produced bronze brass ceremonial and decorative objects, mainly for the tourist market or for export to Europe and the States. The original on which this example was modeled found its way to Fez in Morocco, where it was discovered by the collector Zeyde Schulmann who eventually donated it, together with the rest of his vast collection, to the Israel Museum.
